Hey Jeb: there's no reason to have an argument

But as you've brought the subject up, I'm assuming (and hoping!!!) that you've never actually hanged anyone for more than a very short period of time (ie seconds, not minutes), and you've only only hanged them for 'play', for re-enactment, for mutual satisfaction in a fantasy scenario, or for breath play reasons, etc.

So it's not a meaningful comparison with a real execution where the victim will hang by the neck with no form of neck protection for several minutes, maybe even 20-30 minutes, until they die.

Also I assume you hoist people up for short periods, or drop them only slightly, rather than drop them 1-8 feet through a trap door, so the rope jerks violently tight around their necks, causing all manner of muscular and nervous results, or breaks their neck.

In Lebanon, the executioner drops the prisoner 1-2 feet so they are in a great deal of pain, lets them strangle for a few moments, and then steps forward and breaks their necks by holding onto the prisoner and violently jerking down on them repeatedly until they die. In Iran, they're hoisted up or turned off a lorry on thin hemp ropes or thick plastic ropes, in Kuwait they get a drop of 4-6 feet through a trap door on a thick leather noose, and so on. All very different scenarios that will have very different physical effects.

So really, saying what happens in a few seconds of actual hanging by the neck, carried out under careful, controlled conditions so as not to cause the victim any real harm, pain or damage is not any meaningful comparison with executing someone by hanging, where the idea is to kill them and the fact that they may suffer or be in pain is irrelevant to the executioner... indeed, he may want them to suffer.

Evidence suggests – witness reports, medical reports, photographic evidence – that the occasional, perhaps even rare, physical side effects of full or partial erection, urination, defecation, effusion of seminal fluid, or even full orgasm, on the rare occasions they happen, do not happen within the first few seconds, but later on... after a few minutes of hanging, or as the victim dies, or after death.

It is also well known that in an execution by hanging, the victim can die for any number of reasons or combination or reasons, and the physical side effects of each of those are not always the same.

Good discussion, with some valid points.
A drop that results in damage to the cervical vertebrae is more likely to result in a priapism, than, say, someone being hoisted and getting a boner. It's where we get the expression "well hung" when erections were observed on men that were given a short drop when they were turned off of carts under the gallows.
Of course, in hanging play, there is never any drop due to the risk of soft tissue damage.
