Well it sort of depends on how those hands are tied, you can make rope cuffs to tie your own hands in a sense, doesn't seem to be a good picture of the hands tied that way we can see if he could have done it himself.

Yeah. I've figured I could do the same thing with rope cuffs if I needed to. Just two slip knot loops in the end of a thin cord that you can get into and pull tight. Maybe not something you couldn't get out of on your own if you had time but not while hanging by your neck. It would do the job.
