I don't read Arabic, but it looks like the family pardoned him after they knocked the stool out, so they rushed in to take him down again.

That's right. The language is, in fact, Persian (Farsi). My incomplete translation confirms that there was a very late pardon which saved his life. Some experience!!! But maybe, having got to that stage, he would have been better dead than rotting in an Iranian prison for years to come

This is quite a peculiar hanging altogether.

He is handcuffed and feet chained together at the beginning
When he is actually hanged, although he still has the hand cuffs and chains attached, they are no longer constraining the hands and legs.
He regains consciousness very quickly and doesn't seem to be any the worse for his experience.
I don't see any sign of a bodybag anywhere.

I would love to see a video of his dance on the end of the rope; it seems as though it would have been quite a jig.

Don't know how we missed this one, or how I was fortunate enough to stumble on it, but I think it is 23yo murder convict Hamed Peivasteh in Orumieh on January 19, 2013.

That's a great post of a great hanging, Hallows3. It's the first time I've seen these shots, but we didn't miss it entirely. There was a video (pretty poor quality) of this event showing the condemned being helped on to the stool and then noosed up before being launched into eternity at 2:40 and then of him fighting the inevitable until the end of the video at about 3:23. There's certainly enough in it to give you quite a boner.

Leave it to the ayatollahs to put on a show. Wonder if he was a real criminal or a religious/political one.

THANKS sunray - I had never seen that vid and you are right!
I may have to re-evalute my identification because I think I saw other photos of that execution earlier than January... but can't relocate them, and didn't see them in the Collection back to pg 220. These photos posted on Mehr for January 19, but the google translation mentioned 'December.' However, I have not found the Google translations to be reliable on dates. Often the year and day are in Persian dates, but the months in English! It is helpful when the text gives the day of the week, then I can cross check with Calendar Converter and be more confident in my interpretations.

The series of Hamed is simply put, amazing. (Every wonder how guys choose the things to wear? Porsche? Why? Whatever. He's a CDG for sure.)

I love both of them espeacially the bald one. Can you imagine if everyone who committed a small crime in the united state was hanged. population would decrease by a third.

Here are the other photos - clearly snaps from the video, and yes it was Hamed on January 19 as I originally thought.

Three convicted of murder dispatched in Kermanshah from atop ambulances. Kermanshah is where they previously used public busses as scaffolds. Perhaps they switched to ambulances to serve a dual purpose: scaffold and hearse. Or perhaps ridership on busses declined after being used as scaffolds. Kinda creepy to think about!
