Melcah Jacob Melgar was found dead at 6:00 AM on October 19, 2016 in Sambag, Brgy. Alijis, Bacolod City, Negros Occidental, Philippines.
Most of the reports are in Hiligaynon in which I cannot understand, but I only found one report which is written in English. Here's the full description:
DYHB Investigative Reports: BROKEN DREAMS
Known to many as Jenjen, she is the 6th of 7 siblings from a very supportive parents who, despite poverty, inched their way just to send their children to school. They lived in a small community at Purok Tinago Sambag, Brgy. Alijis, Bacolod City. Her real name is Melcha Melgar, 19 years old. She's a simple and humble young lady with a rich dream. All she ever wanted was to finish her studies, find a job, and build her parents a decent home. A home that would finally liberate them from the punishing walk on a dirt road that tipped more than a kilometer from the main road. But that dream will never be realized because she was found lifeless inside a sugar cane plantation, midway from the safety of her home, about 500 meters away. They found her lying on her tummy, with both hands tied at her back with her lower undergarments slightly pulled down, exposing her butt. Her older sister pulled it up just before the police arrived, to preserve her decency.
Anybody could tell how infamous is the hacienda road that Jen and other female residents need to pass, on their way to and fro from school. With grown sugarcane at both sides, it is a perfect spot for criminally inclined person to unleash their dark plans.
According to her classmates, Jen, bid them goodbye, and boarded a PUJ with Handumanan-Libertad route, past 12 noon on October 18, a Tuesday.
Earlier that morning, several witnesses told the police investigators that they saw a man riding on a single Honda XRM motorcycle, who tried to ask Jen to ride with him, but she refused. Another witness even jokingly asked Jen if the guy was her boyfriend, but Jen was quick to emphatically reply "No!"
A little past 12 in the afternoon, a neighbor of Jen passed by the Hacienda road. She stopped for a second when she heard voices from inside the sugar cane plantation, to quote, "I want to stand up, said the woman, and a man replied, no, just stay where you are and don't you dare stand up!" Thinking that they were just sweethearts doing something nasty, she continued walking towards home and told no one about what she heard.
Several minutes after, another neighbor of Jen passed the same spot and stopped to take a leak. That was when he heard muffled moans inside the sugarcane. He picked up a stone and threw it towards the direction of the noise. When nothing moved, he continued walking and just like the first neighbor, he just kept what he had heard to himself.
A few minutes later, two grade schoolers passed by, and they saw a bearded man, wearing a black shirt, emerged from the sugarcane plantation and quickly walked towards the main road. This time, the boys told their parents what they saw, but the parents didn't bother to check out the area.
Late afternoon, Jen's family wondered why she wasn't home yet, nor they received a text from her, asking to be fetched. Then evening came. Still, no Jen have shown up, and when they tried to call her mobile number, it was already unattended. They spent the sleepless night huddling, with much anticipation that something bad might have happened to their loved one.
6AM, October 19, Wednesday, news came to them about what the 2 elementary pupils have seen and what their neighbor have heard in the sugarcane field. Wasting no time, they went to the place and combed the area where they thought the voice was heard. It didn't take long before they saw the lifeless body of their loved one.
One could just imagine how it's like for Jen. How terrified she might have been. And for the parents as well, they never knew, while they were trying to figure out where Jen was, she is in fact about 500 meters away, alone, lying lifeless on the muddy soil in that cold, rainy night. We may never know how long she suffered from pain before her body finally surrendered to her injuries.
