According to TV Mail CG, José Carlos Freire Filho, 19, who lived in the Pedregal neighborhood, was in the pond in the company of a brother to fish.
At one point, Jose Carlos jumped off a bridge to remove aquatic vegetation which would facilitate their fishing.
The young man, who could not swim, did not return to the surface. The brother panicked and called his family. The Fire Department was on site and found that José Carlos died of drowning.
