Protocols for genital examination of females has varied greatly over the last fifty years. In the United States, fifty years ago many jurisdictions investigated deaths with the coroner system. This was an elected position and was generally a local funeral parlor owner. Most areas in the U.S. now have what is called a Medical Examiner's facility, with a dedicated morgue. In most of the U.S. an autopsy must be performed unless a physican diverts the body certifying death by natural causes.
This brings us to the female genital exam.
Unless there is suspected homicide, this may be quite superficial.
What has changed is the routine swabbing for DNA.
When a swab is taken the sample is much too small for analysis. It must be increased in size. This is done by duplication. Sort of like using a copy machine. The duplicatioj involves what is called the polymerease chain reaction or the "PCR" procedure. Fifty years ago this could be done, but it required the continual attention of a lab worker for a full day.
Then came the magic of the computerized PCR apparatus, which in addition, have come down dramatically in price.
The basic exam kit contains two swabs, one for external swabing, and the other for swabbing deeply around the cervix, which when cut out of the woman looks exactly like a mushroom with a slit.
There are three basic protocols. To perform the swab immediately upon discovery of the body. To perform the exam when the body arrives at the morgue. Or three. To perform this exam at the beginnning of the autopsy.
A speculum is used during this exam forcing the cunt open. The interior is inspected with a penlight. The cervix will be clearly visible.
