I agree, it's amazing that you don't pass out with throat cut and most victims struggle to breathe 3-5 minutes after their windpipe is completely severed.
If your throat is cut, you will still breathe through your windpipe until it fills with blood. What kills is bleeding to death, rather quickly.
An Army (US) officer I used to work for (a ranger in his younger days) said that the army teaches the killer, to stick his knife through the side of the neck and as deep as you can go
and pull it out the front. Much quicker he said.
