I doubt that the indians used the boots for footwear. They most likely cut the leather and recycled it. How many soldiers lose their boots in war? Stripping soldiers after a major battle must have been profitable. Did one do that at the risk of his life?
At first, my sympathy was with the soldier who lost his life, then his boots. But, I noticed the soldier a little distance from him and decided to move him closer to his dear friend. I even linked their hands together as a symbol of the brotherhood that has to exist among a band of warriors.
