I can remember WAY BACK when Mexico was something of a luxury vacation destination. Now, I believe the country's former glories (such as Acapulco) have degenerated into slums, and pretty much all anyone thinks of, when the word "Mexico" comes up, is horrific murders, poor natives trying to get the hell out and GI disorders.
