Prisoners at a jail where a paedophile was disembowelled in an attack in his cell had watched a graphic television show about Jack the Ripper just a few days earlier, it has been revealed.
Inmates at Durham's Frankland prison tuned into Jack the Ripper: The Definitive Story which was aired on Channel 5 last week, the Daily Mirror said.
The programme, a reenactment of the famous investigation into the Victorian serial killer, explained in graphic detail a ritualistic attack.
Five days after it was shown Mitchell Harrison, 23, was found dead at the high-security jail where last year Soham killer Ian Huntley was slashed in the throat by a fellow inmate.
Harrison's killing was said bear similarities to those details described in the two-part docu-drama.
The serial sex attacker was allegedly killed with makeshift weapons, thought to be razor blades melted into toothbrush handles.
The newspaper said the decision to show the prisoners the programme 'triggered real debate' at the prison, but staff, some of whom thought the show was 'inappropriate' were overruled.
