Just days after being inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame, The Models have lost their singer and bass player James Freud.
The body of James Freed was found by his family at their Hawthorn home in inner Melbourne this morning.
Police have confirmed that his death is not suspicious.
The Models were inducted into the Aria Hall of Fame last week but Freud was a no show at the event.
Bandmate Sean Kelly said Freud, who wrote about his struggles with substance abuse in two autobiographies, was unable to make the event after "falling off his bike again".
Freud spoke with ABC Radio National's Richard Glover in 2002 on his battle with addiction and getting sober.
"I had no choice - it was very clear that, you know, the doctor said, 'you've got to stop drinking or you're going to kill yourself'," he said.
"I have had the odd champagne [at] Christmas or whatever, at special occasions, which I can do, but, you know, I was drinking from 6:30 in the morning 'til I went to bed."
The chairman of Mushroom Records, Michael Gudinski, said Freud was a "true pioneer".
"He successfully crossed over from Australia's burgeoning punk scene in the early eighties to then create some of the most played tracks in Australia's recording history," he said.
The Melbourne-based band are perhaps best known for songs like Barbados and Out Of Mind, Out Of Sight.
Freud is survived by his wife and two sons.
