I have no problem if you decide to make CDG a paysite.
I think everyone agrees you're doing a truly great job running CDG.
State your terms clearly so we can decide to join under those conditions or not.
But don't claim "CDG is free and always will be" and then block non-paying members.

Gonna have to agree with everyone's previous sentiments. If even gibing with 5325 posts was blocked, then clearly the number of posts has no effect. In fact, I checked while the block was in effect, and every member online was a paid member.

I find your "CDG is free and always will be" statement to be very deceptive. It's a flat out lie. It's clearly NOT free if you keep blocking us.

I agree with PiercedChest. Covering your costs is one thing, and perfectly understandable. Hell, I wouldn't care if you did make a profit, even though I believe you when you say you don't. What does turn people off is the deception.

I'm clearly not the only one.

Perhaps creating a lower rate for 'forum supporters' or something ($ 5 a month or so) will generate more money
than very steep rates for 'elite membership' which don't buy you much extra.
I enjoy the SR and it has some great material not visible elsewhere,
but it is not so much different from other posts that I would pay that much just to see that.
The times I did pay was primarily to support CDG, but I won't keep paying that much every month.
A cheaper support rate I will seriously consider, but I resent the blockings of nonpaying members.
Maybe other members feel the same.

PS another suggestion:
Make 'forum support certificates' that members can buy ($5, $10, ...). Those are voluntary financial contributions to CDG.
The avatars of members that buy such a one-time support contribution appear in a publicly accessible 'Hall of Fame': These members recently supported CDG. Maybe a month for $5, 3 months for $10 or something.
Maybe add a little perk (an album with all the CDGs-of-the-year or so) that hall-of-fame members can see.

All details can be different, but the general idea is:
maybe members can be seduced to pay something on a voluntary basis in this way,
preserving the we're-no-paid-porn-site on the one hand, the free membership on the other,
and making members proud to contribute something (as much as they can/wish to)
might generate more funds than try to coerce them to pay for elite membership.

I'm not attacking you personally, in fact I respect you highly for your merits for this site and community, as you well know.
And I do understand there's no such thing as a free lunch in this world.
But I do object strongly to your means of trying to entice us to contribute more, which I think are counterproductive (and untruthful).
Therefore I try to make my objections clear, and also offer suggestions for better solutions.
I'm like a cat you try to push through a narrow hole when it hates that (try it!!!): the harder you push the wider it gets.

I'm a top poster (in the top 15 or so), not only of appreciating comments but also of genuine new content. That never happened to me.
So either this isn't true, or the conditions are so steep only you and Phyzzique and one or two others can ever meet them.
So I can't this very seriously.

I don't believe for a moment the blocks of the past few weeks had anything to do with a server being overloaded.
It's true elite members had access, but why would it take an overloaded server that long to recover????

But I won't be forced to do so by means I regard as improper and untruthful.

Either CDG becomes a paysite with clear conditions, or I will contribute on a voluntary basis (indeed I will again in that case).

I can't get any nearer than "earlier in the week". It was quite separate from the changeoever to the new server. I got an error message to say the server was busy, in fact I think the word used was "overloaded"
