Two people were found dead Thursday at Virginia Tech, one of them a police officer who was shot during a traffic stop, and the whereabouts of the suspect are unknown, the school said.
Shortly after noon, a Virginia Tech police officer made a routine traffic stop in the Coliseum parking lot near McComas Hall, and the officer was shot and killed, school spokesman Mark Owczarski said. There were witnesses to the shooting, he said.

Let's put more guns in people's hands or make it easier to obtain them. That solves the problem. I am being facetious here, because I really do not think that way at all. Too many people in modern society are too confused about their own beliefs and intentions to put a gun in their hands or to allow them access to a weapon. They would rather shoot to kill or maim first and then ask questions later and after the fact. We are enabling people to kill each other by giving, unintentionally or intentionally, depending upon your viewpoint, our consent by allowing more and more individuals that have no business using a gun let alone owning a gun to have access to and/or possess them and bear them under the guise of protection. We might as well open up a hunting season on humans. It will cull the masses, but not solve the problems. Too much focus is placed upon the differences between us and not upon the fact that we are much more alike than we care to realize or recognize. We would rather dwell upon the actions of a few that have tainted the views of multiple generations instead of coming together and working as one united force. This incident brings back memories of the D.C. Sniper and the drive-by shootings on the Los Angeles freeways years ago when it seemed it was open season on killing your fellow man for no apparent reason other than you had the means and the opportunity. Nothing was gained and a great deal was lost and destroyed. I have come to the conclusion that no matter how smart and advanced we espouse we are because we feel we are on top of the animal hierarchy and food chain, mankind is just about as dumb as they come when it comes to interpersonal skills and interaction with his fellow man. Incident after incident, some violent, others non-violent, all are evidence that we do not have a clue as to what it means to be a part of a greater whole and work for a common goal and good. The world and mankind is going to Hell in a hand basket. It is evident that someone cut the rope and disabled the brakes so we will be there sooner than we think and we are going to be in for the shock of our lives, if any of us are still living, when we get there. Hold on tight, bend over and kiss your asses goodbye for the end is coming and I do not think that there is a way to stop it. It may not be by any of the dates prophesized such as those in 2012 or what have you, but it is coming.
:very very sad: :outgunned: :automatic: :shooting spree: :RIP:

Fideliodemo, a lot of what you say is spot on - especially 'we do not have a clue as to what it means to be a part of a greater whole and work for a common goal and good'.
But not the underlying hopelessness - as you say yourself 'We would rather dwell upon the actions of a few that have tainted the views of multiple generations instead of coming together and working as one united force' - so let's not do that!
