"Rape" in Iran is, I suspect, not what we think of here. If you are caught with a married woman, you both can be executed, so crying "rape" is the only way to avoid HER death. Among unmarried, it may be the only way to keep her from being killed by her family -- as an honor killing.

Caling thes guys "12th century" is a disservice to 12th century Persia --which was probably less of a theocratic police state.
