SAN ANTONIO – An early morning car accident on Sonterra Boulevard took the life of a college student who just turned 19.
Andres Cabrera was a standout on the Reagan High School football team.
Police believe he was heading to class when he crashed his car just a few blocks from home.
A police report on the accident states his full name as Andres Cabrera Cordero, but the teenager went by Andres Cabrera on Facebook.
The most recent public post on Cabrera’s Facebook page: “So not the way I thought summer would end.”
It was a casual comment that now seems tragically timed.
Just before six Wednesday morning, officers say Cabrera’s car hit another vehicle and he lost control.
"We think maybe he over-steered, over-corrected,” Sgt. Tobe Whitley says. “Caused him to skid."
The other driver was not hurt but Cabrera’s car hit a light pole and a fire hydrant – killing, on impact, a young man who close friends say made an impact at Reagan.
