It began as an argument between two brothers over a Coca-Cola. And ended with one of the brothers dead.
"They were arguing over a Coke," said Yvonne Martinez, spokeswoman for the Palm Bay Police Department. "One brother had drunk it and the other was upset."
The shooting took place about 1 p.m. Friday at 1090 Castile Road, home to Joseph Giampetro, 31,
who died from gunshot wounds, and his 23-year-old brother, Anthony Giampetro.
Both men, who worked occasional jobs in construction, lived with their parents, said Detective Mark Mynheir of the Palm Bay Police Department.
"The two did not get along, and Anthony Giampetro often tried to stay out of his brother's way," Mynheir said.
According to court records, Joseph Giampetro had a lengthy arrest record, including traffic, drug and burglary charges.
After arguing over the Coke, Joseph Giampetro chased his younger brother into a bedroom and tried to kick in the locked door, Anthony Giampetro told police. Saying he feared for his life, Anthony Giampetro shot his brother three times with a revolver, officials said.
Moments later, Anthony Giampetro is heard begging dispatchers to send help.
"He's on the floor of the living room ... hurry up man!" Anthony Giampetro could be heard screaming into the phone with a 9-1-1 dispatcher. "Joey ... stay alive man ... Joey!"
No charges have been filed against Anthony Giampetro. Martinez said detectives are turning the case over to the State Attorney's Office to review for any possible charges.
