College Student Murdered in Student Protest



Paola Ramirez Gomez was a 24 year old college student at the Catholic University of Táchira when she, like many other students, participated in a peaceful protest march due to the Venezuelan institutional crisis of 2017. She had gotten seperated from her companions and was accosted by a group of armed men on motorcycles who may or may not have been private security forces paid by the government. They may also have been a civilian militia 'self-authorized' to police the protests.

In any case, they apparently tried to divest her of her purse, her ID, and her passport. As they were not official law enforcement and did not produce any symbol of legal authority, she refused to give them all of her belongings and turned to run back to her friends on the next block. She got about halfway when one of the men (he still has not been officially identified or charged)fired several rifle shots at her, striking her at least once in the side of her chest as she was running. The bullet(s) pierced both lungs, consigning her to the unfortunate fate of drowning on her own blood. The shots may also have ruptured a significant blood vessel, but that was not confirmed.

CCTV footage showed her falling after she was struck, then attempting to rise again and failing, then crawling several meters before collapsing in the middle of the street. The armed cyclists dispersed when they saw her fall and her friends rushed to her aid, but by the time the actual medical responders arrived, she was already dead.

There were a lot of news crews and students with cameras, so images of her slowly dying on the street, followed by her sad and unsettling postmortem imagery were widely circulated and served to further rally support against the Meduro government.

4 Idaho Students killed. Tragic, yes, but someone goes and kills 4 students - 1 guy & 3 girls, all young and beautiful - and does...Nothing?!? Didn't disembowel them, didn't have sex with them, didn't explore their "treasures", didn't cut some nice steaks for dinner, heck it sounds like the killer didn't even strip them.
