Russian man commits suicide by blowing up entire apartment block with natural gas

A man in Russia commited spectacular suicide today by blowing up his apartment with natural gas.

He told his neighbours he was planning to kill himself but no one took him seriously. He then opened all the gas vents in his apartment and set it on fire leading to an explosiong that blew up three floors.

Minutes later a whole section of the apartment block collapsed in front of stunned residents.

A total of 26 people have so far been rescued, according to an Emergency Ministry spokesman. Some of them were pulled out from under the rubble. Seven people were hospitalized, some with serious fractures and injuries. Rescuers continue to dig the rubble in hopes of finding survivors.
