Came across some interesting articles I thought folks on here might like.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2012/jun/09/sex-depravity-penguins-scott-antarctic

"....he witnessed males having sex with other males and also with dead females, including several that had died the previous year. He also saw them sexually coerce females and chicks and occasionally kill them."

http://www.guardian.co.uk/education/2005/mar/08/highereducation.research

Found this one pretty entertaining :smirk:

"He dismounted only twice, stayed near the dead duck and picked the neck and the side of the head before mounting again."

This one has pictures!

"At 10:50 a.m. (air temperature ca. 33 ºC), we saw at a 5-6 m distance, an adult male of Ameiva ameiva, mounted on the back of a conspecifc dead adult female (probably killed after being run over by a vehicle), on the centre of the road. The male pressed his gular region against her back, rubbed it repeatedly with lateral movements of his head and flicked tongue several times. Then, he made a series of movements with his hind limbs, trying to oppose his cloaca with the female’s (Fig. 1), but apparently not everting his left or right hemipenis."

I got all these links from this original link I came across

http://phenomena.nationalgeographic.com/2013/02/26/male-frog-extracts-and-fertilises-eggs-from-dead-female/

There is a cool picture of dead frog sex also.

"Izzo found the answer when he saw a male grasping the body of a dead female and rhythmically squeezing the sides of her belly. Out popped her eggs, like beads on a jelly-coated string."

In one of the articles it uses the term "Davian behavior" which came from a limerick. Its a pretty clever little limerick :tongue for you:

"There was an old miner named Dave
who kept a dead whore in his cave
You have to admit
He hadn't much wit
But look at the money he saved!"

:too hard to take:

Well i guess there is no real reason why necrophilia should be for humans only, very interesting . Thanks

My fellow countryman Kees Moeliker was a pioneer: he got the 2003 IgNobel prize for his observation of homosexual necrophilic behavior in ducks.

It took biology centuries to 'see' 'ordinary' homosexual behavior in animals. Only in the last few decades have we learned that homosexuality exists EVERYWHERE in the animal kingdom. Calling homosexual behavior 'unnatural' is now not only stupid (the argument is faulty even if humans were the only species practicing it) but willfully ignorant as well.

So now we are starting to learn that other forms of sexual diverse behavior are ALSO common everywhere else in nature. Good! Let science drive the barbaric intolerants away!

Maybe a good requirement on the profile of the new pope should be that she has at least a master degree in biology.
