.Why is the news so sanitized in this country?
It is not only the news. It is your whole country.
Attitudes towards death vary wildly across nations. Brazil and the US are not that far geographically but in terms of how they deal with the dead these two countries are worlds apart.
In the US bodies are hidden, funeral cermonies are heavy and the casket is closed when the body is actually buried.
And as you have seen in Brazil anyone can go see a dead guy take pics even touch the body.
In Europe this is not allowed but funerals are open casket even for car wreck victims, the lid is put a minute before the body is buried.
There are no funeral homes and when grandpa died we took him from the morgue and put him in the bedroom so that grandma could spend one last night with him.
This is allowed here but only when the weather is not too hot.
Also when my grandpa croaked in his home paramdics asked grandma if she wanted to take him to the morgue and cut him open or leave the body to be prepared by relatives.
She said she will take care of him. She called her sister's husband who came to her aprtment undressed grandpa stark naked and washed him on floor in the bathroom, shaved him.
Then put his suit on and placed him in the casket.
But this is nothing compared with what Muslims do.
A big shot muslim dude was killed in Sofia last year. They autopsied him and pepared him at the morgue.
But according to their tradition, a dead men is prepared by a crowd of muslim men up to 20.
So they took the body in a house undressed him stark naked and twenty guys washed him even though he was washed.
They wanted to follow their tradition.
The body is then wrapped in a shroud and carried by hand to the cemetery, no casket no nottin.
