Aye good ritual self killing ? Ancient Greek. They and Romans did it to avoid capture, dishonour, or slavery. Looks similar to Japanese Seppuku and we Scots warriors did it in the past for the same reasons by placing the broadsword or dirk on the ground , point on the chest over the heart and falling onto the blade giving a quick but no doubt painful death.

Hmmmmm... sounds hot to me! I like the idea of just going for it, straight through the heart. How much pain could you actually experience before you pass out?

Death by a blade being rammed through the heart is fairly quick, a few moments of agony, enough time to groan or cry out then unconsciousness and final death within 3-4 minutes, being killed by a blade through the gut is a lot slower depending on whether a major artery is hit allowing you to bleed out, or a slow death from infection if not. Soldiers in battle hoping for a quick clean death when it is their time hope for a chest or head wound rather than taking it in the guts.
