This photo has always bothered me. Is it a fake? Wouldn't the soldier be shot? Why aren't his hands tied behind his back? That's not the original head.And why aren't there other pictures of this execution? Can anyone identify the uniform? And wouldn't his body collapse? Here's my version, my head as well.
I just noticed -you indicate this is from a movie. Which movie?

I do not know if it is from a movie. Someone sent it to my a long time ago. I use it once in a while as back ground on my desk top.

This is one pic I have always admired too.
I too believe it is a fake - unfortunately - it is hot!
I feel it is a combination of two pics - on for the 'headless' body with the other where the head is. Well done though.
The head is not in a natural position for just being removed.
The 'executioner' has a sword - if beheading with a sword the victim is kneeling upright or slightly bent - not over a barrel or block.
Whether I am right or wrong it is still a damned hot pic!

The execution is faked. The uniforms are those of the Finnish army, 1930s.
