Some speculate that the "bright light, peaceful feeling" that happens with near death experiences are an evolutionary adaptation to help with the death process. fMRI's have shown that hypoxia to certain parts of the brain in NDE are very similar in subjects that have experienced these situations. I don't fear death so much as having a painful one or inability to end the suffering if I fall ill and doomed to die a slow death...
