A Florida man has been arrested for allegedly axing a Connecticut man and eating his eyeball and brain in a cemetery, police say.
A property inspector discovered the body of Angel Gonzalez on the third-floor of an abandoned house in Bridgeport, Conn., on Jan. 20. An autopsy determined Gonzalez died of blunt head trauma.
Officers in Lynn Haven, Fla., arrested Tyree Smith, 35, Tuesday after he fled Connecticut on a Greyhound bus, police said.
On Monday, the Smith's cousin told Bridgeport detectives that Smith went to her house on Dec. 15 and told her he had to "get blood on his hands," according to the arrest warrant affidavit.
Smith returned the following day, the cousin said, and she saw blood on his pants, hand and an axe.
She said Smith told her he beat the victim in the face and head after he invited him into the abandoned house to sleep, the police affidavit says.
Afterward, Smith said he removed an eye and piece of the skull and brain, she told police.
Smith then told his cousin he walked to a cemetery nearby and ate the eyeball and part of the brain, the affidavit says.
