The Mexican state of Tamaulipas and particularly the border region with the USA have seen in recent weeks an increase in violence and gun battles between rival cartels, the Zetas on one side and an alliance between "La Familia", "Cartel Del Golfo" and the "Cartel de Sinaloa" who as a group name themselves as "the New Federation" on the other.
The Zetas are mostly military deserters who made their own drug running and smuggling cartel.
The new federation has gone to war against the Zetas because this last ones have been involved in kidnapping, extortion as protection and murder of innocent civilians.
Cities like Reynosa Tamaulipas is practically a ghost town, last week the USA closed its consulate in the city citing lack of security.
Most citizens stay indoors after dark and claim that the police is absent and the military stays away allowing the cartels cleansing to go on the streets.
National and local news media has been silent about the frequent gun battles and the state government has said that this are only rumors, paranoia and "nothing is happening in Reynosa",
in a response by local residents some decided to put videos on youtube and pictures on facebook and twitter of gunbattles and the aftermath.
