Yep, messy but effective.
Better to angle the rifle so the bullet exits towards the rear of the skull, passing through as much brain as possible.

Hmm, looks more like it's a double-barrelled shotgun to me. Either way, it did the job and I agree with PiercedChest that the guy was very considerate in stripping naked for us before blowing his brains out. Would be nice if other male suicides did the same.
