Many Bulgarians are in shock and disbelief today as police announced a young couple have thrown themselves directly under the wheels of a speeding freight train in Northern Bulgaria.
The train driver said they hugged each other directly on the tracks and waited for the train to run them over.
"Poor things had no chance, the train was loaded, weighing more than 220 tonnes, I couldn't stop in time," the engine driver told the police.
16-year-old Albena, beautiful as a model according to all who knew her, and her boyfriend 15-year-old Tsvetan decided to commit suicide together because the parents of Albena didn't approve her boyfriend.
Problem was that Tsvetan is a gypsy. But Albena loved him so much, they have been going steady for two years.
The parents of the girl were heavily sedated because they couldn't cope with the death of their daughter.
Amazingly Tsvetan survivied as in hospital. He is in critical condition with broken skull and legs and arms totally mangled.
Doctors say he is unlikely to survive.
Horrific stories like this make me terribly sad.
