i'd like 2 know of people into resuscitation (roleplay or real)

oops, this reminds me I need to renew my CPR certification....omg...before the 18th....

I used to teach CPR to rescuers and nursing students.. One should never compress the chest of a person with a pulse. It is very damaging to the cartilage and ribs. It can also puncture a lung and it can actually stop a heart from beating. It's basically a better than nothing response when someone dies. The success rate is only about one in ten. But, that is still a sizable number of people saved.

thx!! but i sort of know, just if u really compress, and the sternum touches the pericardium, nothing likely to happen when it's a play n not real...

The number one problem you are overlooking is that compressing the sternum compresses the heart. Anytime you do that to a beating heart, you can cause it to stop. Also, not everybody's sternum is flexible. Age, genetics and health are determining factors. One major risk is if you compress the sternum and the cartilage or a rib breaks, which is quite common in CPR. If something should give way while you are compressing, you run the risk of puncturing the heart. That most definitely could kill you.

Wow! That chick is one hot lifeguard I'd like to let her put her mouth on mine.
