  • Bloodbath reported in Boston a few minutes ago as two explosions rock finish line of famous Boston Marathon
  • Officials urging people at the scene to leave as secondary explosive devices have been found
  • 2 killed, hundreds injured
  • Witness Dave Weigel said via Twitter minutes after the explosion: ‘I saw people’s legs blown off. Horrific. Two explosions. Runners were coming in and saw unspeakable horror.'

I really appreciate this post, Meatpie! I was listening to the radio and wondering if there would be anything on the CDG site concerning the bombs...and there is, thanks to you.

The guy in that one photo, who lost both legs below the knee, has got to be in deep shock. I'm impressed he's still conscious.

Sad. That dude looks totally in shock which is understandable. I think I would've passed out. I'll make a prediction on why it happened in terms of most likely to least likely:

1) religiously motivated
2) someone disgruntled about all the gun control talks since the marathon was in honor of the Newtown shootings
3) racially motivated
4) a disgruntled marathon event ex-employee who wanted to get back (ie. going "postal")

Still there's a predecessor who made a successful career as runner with two lower leg protheses before he 'accidentally' shot his girlfriend......
 
I've seen pics of that dude in mainstream media but of course they censor the gory parts...
 
This poor guy who lost both his legs is 24 year old Jeff Bauman. He's from Chelmsford, Massachusetts. According to reports, he was watching his girlfriend who was competing in the marathon when the explosion blasted both his legs off. His life has completely changed. Hopefully his GF stuck behind him.

i live just a few miles from the marathon finish line... it's weird seeing a place i hung out all the time when i was a teen and early 20's get totally fucked like that.
