"In a most tragic way, the family of Jamal Bana learned about the death of their son in the far away land of Somalia; they came across a photograph of the 20 year old’s on a website on the Internet. Suddenly coming to terms with their eldest son’s death in this abrupt and somewhat inappropriate manner has shaken the family quite a lot. Though they had been aware of the nature of circle that Jamal had got entangled in, the revelation of it, that to in this way was something the family had been prepared for.
It was earlier this month, that Jamal’s mother and father received a phone call that asked them to check out a website. When they had followed the instructions, they had come across a photograph of their son, already dead with a bullet wound on his head. Said his mother, tears choking her voice, “He must have been somewhat disillusioned and indoctrinated, because he didn’t have any clue about Somalia at all.” After his disappearance, he had called home once saying he is in Somalia; from then on his communication with his family had been guarded and scarce."
Jamal had been missing from his Minneapolis home for as long as November 4, 2008. According to what the FBI is saying, Jamal’s involvement with a Somalia based terrorist group was the reason the youth had gone missing from Minneapolis. The terrorist group called Al-Shabaab is said to have close ties with the Al Qaeda. According to the reports, a number of Minneapolis based youth of Somalia origin had been recruited by the Al-Shabaab in the recent months. At least three of them have been reported dead."
