An airport employee has died after being sucked into a passenger plane engine in Texas.

The worker was "ingested" into the engine of a Delta plane that was taxiing towards its gate with one engine turned on, officials said.

The worker's employers say an initial investigation shows the incident was unrelated to safety procedures, but it is not yet clear how it happened.
An investigation is also being carried out by a government agency.

The National Transportation Safety Board said it had been in contact with Delta Air Lines and was "in the information gathering process at this point."
The plane, an Airbus A319, arrived at San Antonio on Friday night from Los Angeles International Airport.

Officials have not yet named the employee of Unifi Aviation, which Delta Air Lines contracts for ground crew operations.

The manner of death of an employee who was ingested into an engine at San Antonio International Airport has been ruled to be suicide.

The cause of death is by blunt and sharp force injuries. As might be expected after being injected into a running jet engine.

It was Delta flight 1111 taxing to a gate. Because the fatality was an airline ground crew member, we can surmise they had authorization to be on the tarmac.

If you are determined to kill yourself, the opportunities abound.

You can drink bleach. Or insecticide. One of my aunts, who was a nurse, did the latter while she was living in a spare bedroom in our house while I was a child. That was pretty fucked up. She survived that incident. She died of a heart attack a decade later while vacuuming her apartment in the nude. I could not bear to go to her funeral.

If you have a gun, as millions of Americans do, you can shoot yourself. It is very effective. If everyone is lucky, you are the only one you shoot.

Suffocation is only a trash bag away. Or a swim cap if you are sophisticated. Hanging is easy to improvise; ropes, belts, chains. So many ways.

If you have a car or motorcycle, crashing into things is a time honored way to die, if not always effective. You might just be maimed for life.
Using an airplane is more exotic, but almost always works. It is hard to survive a deliberate plane crash.

Being sucked by choice into a running airplane engine is a level up.

It will cost a million dollars to fix that engine.
