He had been drinking - but went to assist a friend retrieve a fishing net - and drowned.

Drowning has to be one of the worst ways to go. I hate not being able to breathe! I once saw a video of some punk holding a little kitten under water in a fish tank while his buddy filmed the death throes. That poor tortured cat is burned into my brain, and serves as one more good reason for me to embrace hydrophobia.

that is horrible to watch...

but I do agree drowning is probably one of the worst ways to die!
