My rowing team lost a crucial game against another college. After returning back to the training centre, the team manager said there would be some punishment on us. We did not think too much on it; just entered the accommodation room, climbing onto to the bunk beds, lying there for a while and then preparing for taking shower. Because we were told we could have our shower first before the punishment.
Usually we had organized shower time, so did this time. 10 shirtless guys walked together into the shower room. Then we suddenly realized the punishment was coming.
The main officers in the team said we would be killed first; then had our bodies washed in the shower room!
Knowing it was our fate, we calmly accepted it. There were 2 long benches in the room; so two boys were executed at a single time.
The method of killing is quite simple: A tiny poisonous ball would be placed in our right or left armpit; then the ball would melt and the drug could go through the muscles and tissues in the armpit, arm or chest wall into the arteries and veins. When it went with blood into lungs and heart, the victim’s heart would be stopped in a form of heart arrest. From putting the ball into the armpit to the sudden death, it only took 5 minutes usually.
One of my teammates was only 18 years old. Compared with the older guys, he was relatively slim. And his physical strength, including his heart, was also weaker as well. So his heart was stopped properly in 4 min 15 sec. The officer asked him what he felt at 3 min 10 sec, he was still clear and said: “My heart felt strengthless; but no pain.” When he was declared death by auscultation by stethoscope, he looked like being asleep. Before carrying his body, the workers firstly stripped off his trainers, socks, trousers and underwear, so that they would measure his body for record. His body was 1.85 tall with size 44 feet,
As a really lately developed tech, however, the death could not be guaranteed. For people in late 20s such as me and the team captain, as we had thicker muscles and stronger hearts, death might take some time to happen. In order to make a solid death, the poison ball was put in my left armpit so that the drug could also penetrate my ribcage into my heart. The ball was put into the captain’s left armpit, too. But then things started going wrong. After the ball totally melted, my heart rate reduced from 45 bpm to 30 bpm. Although I had lost consciousness, I was still alive. So they insert a second ball into my left armpit. Luckily, I finally died due to the arrhythmia caused by the drug from the ball.
But our captain was not so lucky. He did feel his heart uncomfortable; but after absorbing 3 poison balls, his heart was still beating with 40 bpm and he looked quite energetic as usual. So he asked the officer to strangle him instead with a thick rope. He did not struggle during strangulation. When he died, his eyes was closed naturally, only with his tongue stuck out a little bit. He died as a true man!
Then our bodies were put under the tap, having the last shower. Finally, our naked bodies were sealed in tight, body-shaped bags; then put into metal coffins. With this method, our dead bodies could be entirely fresh for 10 years or even more. We were not to be buried in cemetery however. Our final destination was a medical warehouse, where many year people’s body were stored. Each of us lay on a layer on the shelf.
