for those of us that dont' have their heads burried in the sand, two episodes start a new series tonight on National Geographic channel that documents various people how they're preparing for Doomsday.
Population now at 7 Billion.......just listen to that clock ticking.......tick....tick.....tick.......
Question how long would it take? If half the people eat the other half.....then that half eats the other half, etc, etc.
How long will it take to get to Zero?????????????????

You can't get to zero simply by eating one another because that last survivor wouldn't eat them self. After watching the show, I think what is being exhibited is the extremes of mental illness. These survivalist are trying to placate their fear of death and the inability to control it. There is much more involved with the breakdown of society as they see it. The size of Earth's population for one thing makes it nearly impossible for total anarchy. There are always leaders who will take charge and people will find a way to maintain some form of government even in the worst of situations.

To believe that the continents could move so far in a short time is ignorant. It would take millions of years for such a thing to happen. As far as the Earth being hit by a comet or meteor, the result will last thousands of years, not just a few weeks. If people want to be prepared for a natural disaster such as a tornado or hurricane, that's understandable. But nuclear annihilation isn't going to happen and people will come together if need be to deal with a global threat.

The largest threat to the United States in the foreseeable future may actually be civil war. The current loss of faith in the federal government continues to grow while our elected officials milk their positions for all they are worth. It will likely be the survivalist types who form militias to overthrow the corrupted government, remove the trouble makers and allow other people to take charge. The government may have to be humbled before the country can thrive and become a world economic power. It will take time for that to happen.

Besides, we would run out of ketchup long before everyone was eaten and mustard alone won't do. :-)
