t least 339 people have died and 300 were injured in a stampede that took place in Phnom Penh, the Cambodian capital, during the Water Festival. The authorities estimate that more than two million people had come to celebrate the last day of the festival, which lasts three days, during which participants gather on the banks of the Tonle Sap River to pay homage to the monsoon water and fire.
