Toxic Industrial Cyanide Inhalation

The incident occurred in India at industrial metal processing plant.

Four workers suddenly fell unconscious and when paramedics arrived three were declared dead with one survivor in hospital. Death scene investigation and autopsies revealed cyanide poisoning.

Autopsy case from USA.

A middle aged man chased his wife and child from the house trying to stab them and set them on fire fortunately, a neighbour took in the wife and child. When police arrived, there was a complex stand off that was clearly described in the police report and was well replicated on the body with the injuries. He had set himself of fire and stabbed/cut himself; the police had fired bean bag rounds and sent the dog (a German Shepard) on him.

Fatal Crocodile Attack

Australia. The remains of an adult male were found in a river after a crocodile attack. The head had been decapitated through the lower neck and showed severe compound and comminuted fracturing of the skull and facial skeleton with loss of the brain. The arms had been amputated through the shoulder joints. The skin of the trunk was retrieved and showed numerous irregular, elongated lacerations typical of a crocodile attack. Similar wounds were also present on the head and arms.

One of the most effective and feared predators in northern Australia is Crocodylus porosus, the estuarine or saltwater crocodile. Found only in northern Australia, southeast Asia, and the Eastern coast of India, Crocodylus porosus is the largest of the 23 species of crocodilians, on occasion reaching 8.5 meters in length with a weight of two tonnes (one tonne or metric ton = 1000 kg). Crocodile attacks in Australia are not common, with a study of 62 attacks between 1971 and 2004 showing that 63% occurred in the Northern Territory compared to 24% in Queensland and 13% in Western Australia.

Man Commits Suicide with a Firework Inside His Mouth

Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, US. In late January 2004, a young woman arrived home at 4:25 PM and noted a smell similar to that of gun powder throughout the residence. She discovered her brother lying on the kitchen floor in the left lateral position. The sister noticed a large amount of smoke in the air in the kitchen and the surrounding rooms. She went to a neighbor's house and called 911.

Polish Man Skinned His Father and Wore His Face As a Mask

Poland, 1999. A 26-year-old man killed his father by multiple puncture wounds to the chest and neck using a sharpened screwdriver. He lured his father into the cellar and, before inflicting the fatal strokes, he tried in vain to electrocute him using a stun gun. After this, he hung his father by the legs in a cellar window and decapitated him using a surgical scalpel and shovel. Additionally, he made deep incisions across the popliteal fosse to bleed the corpse and collected the blood from the cervical stump vessels in a bucket. He then took the separated head and neck upstairs to his room and scalped it through the whole night.

Body Skeletonized by Flesh-eating Fish

Brazil. An unidentified cadaver was recovered from the Madeira River, near an urban port of Porto Velho, in the Amazon region. The victim was a homeless person who was seen bathing in the river and had dived under the muddy waters before disappearing. Videos of this moment taken by witnesses confirmed these reports. The Military Fire Brigade was called to locate and retrieve the body, which happened approximately 17 hours after the disappearance.

At the autopsy, an already skeletonized but articulated body was observed. The body had male anthropo-logical characteristics; namely an android pelvis shape, a robust jaw and skull with prominent glabella and superciliary arches, and bulky mastoid processes. The eyeballs, scalp, ears, gingival mucosa, teeth, fingers, plantar region of the feet, articular cartilages, and, part of the anterior chest, abdomen, and thigh skin, were preserved. All internal organs of the thoracic and abdominal cavities were absent, and circular lesions observed on the body were compatible with ichthyofauna activity. Bone fractures or areas of contusion suggestive of violence or trauma causing death were not recorded. Although it was not possible to confirm the cause of death during the autopsy, as the internal organs were absent, asphyxiation by drowning was suspected as this was in keeping with eyewitness accounts of the events that took place prior to the man's disappearance.

A forensic dentistry examination showed that the maxilla and mandible were exposed, with the remaining soft tissue adhered to the bones, preserving the gingiva inserted in the alveolar edges and the hard palate. Vital dental signs, such as the presence of moderate to severe wear on the incisal and occlusal edges of the teeth that were present, caries and residual roots in several teeth, and some antemortem teeth absences, were analyzed. The family of the decedent was asked for medical and dental data and documentation of the victim to assist in the individual’s identification but those clinical records were not available or did not exist. Nevertheless, a smiling photograph of the victim was presented to the experts, which included partial exposure of the anterior teeth.

The smiling photograph was scaled to enable accurate superimposition with the post-mortem images and the antemortem photograph was sharpened before the two sets of images were compared. Photos were evaluated by direct comparison of morpho-pathological changes of the smile and by the computerized delineation of the smile line. The computerized delineation of the incisal dental characteristics showed essential individualizing elements, namely the singularity of the incisal edges and wear of the anterior teeth. This led investigators to conclude that they had made a positive identification.

This case highlights the ferocity of the fish of the species Cetopsis candiru (also known as candiru cobra), Cetopsis coecutiens (also known as candiru-açu) and Calophysus macropterus (also known as piracatinga). The circular and oval sharp-blunt lesions found in the skull and in the remaining portions of skin and musculature are compatible with the action of Cetopsis coecutiens, which bite, turn their body like a drill, and remove large pieces of soft tissues. The preservation of the eyeballs, ears, scalp, and cartilage that holds the bones together and observations that the skeleton remained articulated are compatible with the typical scavenger action of the fish species Calophysus macropterus.

An Unusual Case of Sudden Death Associated with Masturbation

United Kingdom, in the1980s.

The deceased was an unmarried 32-year-old computer programmer. He was found dead in his bed one morning, having been absent from work the previous day.

The bearded man was wearing tinted glasses lying in bed and with a masturbatory device strapped to him.

Next to him was a portable cassette player and a spray can that contained local anesthetic. T

he earphones worn by the deceased were connected to the cassette player. On the cassette in the machine were the recorded sounds of a horse snorting. The video player was still on when the deceased was found. At the foot of the bed was a painting of a male, bound to the limbs of a horse by chains, being anally penetrated by the horse, which in turn was being ridden by a leather-clad female.
