From a Dutch weekly opinion magazine (Vrij Nederland 15/9/2012):
Citing from a recent report "Global burden of armed violence":
Over 500.000 people are killed every year by violence.
About 10% of these (55.000) die in battle or from terrorist actions.
The majority (360.000) is 'just' murdered.
The rest (75.000) are homicides or victims from crushing insurrections.
In other words, killings during peace vastly outnumber war casualties nowadays.
2/3 of all killings take place in just 58 countries (there are about 196 countries).
1/4 in just 14 countries.
