Truly amazing case after nearly 19 years authorities in USA have finally been able to determine the identify of a handsome young man who was found murdered in Henry County back in 2003.

On July 9, 2022 Henry County Coroner Stacey Guffey issued a statement saying the dead young man — whose remains were found Oct. 2, 2003, near an abandoned convenience store along Interstate 70 — was indeed Daniel S. Diaz of Columbus, Ohio.

Diaz had died as a result of a gunshot wound in his head, the coroner said yesterday.

Guffey said Diaz — who was born in 1977 — was recently identified through a fingerprint match. The coroner was informed of that finding by FBI agents. The victim's family has been informed.

With his identify unknown in the wake of his death, Diaz was buried in Lewisville Cemetery in southern Henry County.

A marker was donated for his grave that reads, "Here lays a young man that only God knows."

The marker is now expected to be revised with Diaz's name and the years of his birth and death.

Authorities had also tried to use DNA and dental records in a bid to identify the body.

The events leading to Diaz's slaying — which took place near I-70's interchange with Ind. 109 — remain under investigation.

Authorities determined the Columbus man was seen making a purchase at a Walmart in Reynoldsburg, Ohio — a suburb of Columbus, and about 150 miles east of New Castle — two days before his body was found.
