I watched it several times and from what I can tell, it appears to be one of his sneakers flying off his feet upon impact.

Also it seems that he hit the trash can of all things on the sidewalk as he landed sending junk and his guts all over the sidewalk for the world to see.

That seems likely. I was once almost hit by a shoe in similar circumstances. I was walking on a city street at night, there was a squeal of brakes and a thud - I didn't see the accident because there was a shrubbery between me and the road, but several seconds later a shoe fell from the sky and just missed my head.
