Here we see memorialized
the embalming of a killed-in-action (KIA)
American Civil War Union infantry foot-soldier
after the bloody Battle of Antietam,
also called the Battle of Sharpsburg,
.... fought on September 17, 1862.

This bloody battle resulted in
in a total of about 23,000 soldiers on both sides outright killed,
wounded, or went missing over the course of the single-day battle.

This Battle of Antietam
was and still is
the BLOODIEST BATTLE in all of American military history.

I have extensively personally toured the entire twelve acre battlefield,
and felt a very haunting and keen sense
of all the extreme pain and death that occurred there.
