In Scotland you have the right to roam where you like in the countryside - except military training areas and bomb ranges - for obvious reasons

Yes, Scottish law has always been closer to French than to English. So far as access to the countryside is much less than it used to be, though if you can walk hrough enclosed farmland so long as you do no damage (ie using gates and closing them behind you, not trampling crops) that still is different.
