Fibre-optic Christmas tree catches fire and kills boy in Kilmarnock, Scotland

A nine-year-old boy died when a fire, thought to have been sparked by a fibre-optic Christmas tree, tore through his home.

Evan Mohammed was asleep in an upstairs bedroom when thick smoke filled the house in Kilmarnock, Scotland, after the fire broke out at around 3am yesterday.


Family members described how Evan’s distraught mother, Sheree McGill, 34, frantically battled to save her children but was eventually beaten back by the ferocity of the flames.
