Its the dream job, isn't it? PLEASE GOD, I want my present for Christmas to be job openings at the morgue in Sofia for assistants, even a cleaner will do.

I'll work for free.

Thanks...they reposted it on other sites too, some people are real quick with reposts!!!

OMG!! IS GREAT POST, VERY GOOD IMAGES THANKS MEATPIE

Love the slabs! Thanks

It is a great post Meatpie. Have you ever considered taking some college classes that involve cadavers. That would allow you to make contact as well as gain experience to help you get your dream jofb.

I can easily get a morgue job, I have forensic experts who are my friends and we share stuff, where do you think all that material is coming from.

For now I am not fit for a morgue job.

It's stressful and the conditions are here are awful.

I understand. What if you immigrated to a better location? Would that make the job more tolerable or are some aspects of such a career just unbearable? Some of our small town morticians put down generations of family members and seem unphased by it. They tend to be very calm although certain things are rumored to go on behind closed doors. The biggest problem seems to be the toxic effects of breathing formaldehyde fumes for years and years although some of it may be absorbed from close contact;)

May I ask how your friends in the industry manage to get away with passing on photos of the deceased? Wouldn't word of it eventually get back to the employer or the families? In this country there are legal ramifications for releasing a morgue photo without the families permission.

In this country there are legal ramifications for releasing a morgue photo without the families permission.

The US is completely different from here.

There are no family funeral homes in Bulgaria and no embalming. Formaldehyde is banned in the EU.

There are a lot of necrophiles in the US who work in funeral homes, they must be very happy.

If I immigrate I wouldn't be able to start a morgue job right away.

Problem here is that morgues are not high tech like in CSI - and the salary is just $200 a month.

I would love a career working in a morgue when conditions improve.

At the morgue I went to they were one hundred unidentified bodies!

So many they couldn't stick them all in the fridge and some decomposed on the floor.

One of our duties was to scrape them with caustic soda.

:sm (41):

That sounds terrible. They should photograph the unidentified bodies and take DNA samples. Then they could get rid of them. Do you think conditions will improve? The situation seems like it could become a major health hazard. Here, our biggest problem is funeral home operators hiding bodies because they're to cheap to fix their broken crematoriums. But, they usually stack them outside.

Maybe plastination will be the next way to embalm people. They will keep a hundred years that way. Could be a good thing.

You are incredible, you always come up with crazy ideas and solutions, I like that.

Conditions here are worsening, my country is in deep recession, the health care system has collapsed.

Even qualified forensic experts don't want to work in such conditions.

Bulgarian law says that a person can't be buried until the family are informed.

But the morgue is full of young unidentified guys and dead homeless people with no family.

They are now working to change the law but it's a slow difficult process.

Until then the bodies continue to melt and new ones are piled ontop of the old ones until the finally become only dry bones.

What I have seen a few people have seen - all stages of human decomposition - up close and personal.

I felt but ill but didn't puke that's why they approved me for the job but I didn't go :)

Your country is a lot like ours. Our bureaucrats promise to fix this, that and the other problem. But all they really seem interested in doing is playing political games and messing up bills that actually seem sensible. The people in our country are pretty unhappy with our government now. They intend to get rid of the incumbents at election time. So far so me well known Congressional representatives lost in their bid to run for re-election. That shook things up a little.

My coutry is hell compared to the US.

400,000 euros have been stolen from the healthcare system - all public money paid by health insurances, and no one knows who did it.

What makes me sad about the US is how bad you are hit by disasters - oil spills, catastrophic hurricanes, wildfires, what if yellowstone blows up?

The United States is absolutely huge continent.

wow tought time in bulgaira being a morgue tech is not a great job as far as here people want a instant fix and it doesnt happen

Thanks Meatpie for a wonderful post. I concur it would be a dream job.
