Haven't done bloodwork in photoshop in a while, so it's a little rough. But I hope it gets the point across. Or the nice sharp bloody edge.

It implies that the person is bleeding. Try adding more black to the red so it looks more venous and reduce the contrast so it blends in with photo which is not very sharp. You're doing a pretty good job. Did you shoot the photo?
