Indonesian officials have confirmed that flight AirAsia QZ8501, which disappeared on 28 December, crashed into the Java Sea off Borneo.

The Airbus A320-200, carrying 162 people from Surabaya in Indonesia to Singapore, was just over 40 minutes into its flight when contact was lost during bad weather.

Some wreckage and bodies were recovered floating some 16km (10 miles) from the plane's last known co-ordinates.

The main debris, including the fuselage in which the bodies of many of the victims may be trapped, is believed to lie underwater.

I am surprised by how well the bodies held up even when the heads were picked clean. What a miserable way to die (in a plane crash) and then be dead (in the ocean). Saints preserve me from such an end!

Amazing finding. It is totally hard to find any QZ8501 pictures online.
Only managed to find one.

So sad. Thanks for posting the photos. Why do they have just their skulls? Did the impact of the crash rip their flesh apart?
