2,530,000 young people in the UK are unemployed.

Additionaly 10,000,000 are classified as "economically inactive" meaning they don't have a job and don't go to school or university.

I attended a 'business' type conference a some months back, held in the UK - and was involved with a focus sub-group. Some of the questions were about how to secure individuals present jobs - also best way to secure future employment - if present jobs vanished. A strong feeling of insecurity pervaded the meeting. Interesting times!

The problem in the UK stems from the fact that there few jobs at the moment. Some 500,000 people are due to lose their jobs within the next eighteen months. This means that skilled workers with a proven track record will get first choice as new jobs come up. Young people have been told to stay at colledge until eighteen and leave with no work skills at all. The new government has scrapped what help there was for young people and that has made it more difficult. It is not good being a young person in our country.
