World kayaking champion Miklos Dudas has been found dead in his apartment in Budapest, Hungary. As confirmed by the Hungarian Kayak Federation, the Olympic sixth-place kayaker and world champion was 34 years old.

The news of the death of the Hungarian kayaker was also confirmed by a source close to the athlete. Police conducted an investigation at the home of Miklós Dudas throughout the day. The entire apartment block was blocked off and no one was allowed to enter the building.

The press service of the Budapest Police Station provided the following information: “We would like to inform you that a 34-year-old man was found dead in an apartment in the 18th district on January 5, 2026 at around 11.22 a.m. The Budapest Police Station has begun an investigation and clarification of the circumstances at the scene.”

Dudas achieved his greatest success in 2014, winning the world championship title in Moscow with the K1 relay team (Shandor Totka, David Heric and Bence Nadash). He also won a bronze medal at the European Junior Championships, while bringing home two gold and one silver medal from the World Championships.

He won bronze at the 2013 World Relay Championships, the season before his greatest successes. He was also champion at the European Games, but his medal was stripped after a doping test. He finished third again at the 2018 World Championships, before announcing his retirement in 2021.
