A story taken from "The Sorrows of Love" by Parthenius of Nicaea, about a guy (Dimoetes) who simped so hard for a dead woman that he killed himself.

He was married to his niece, Evopis, but Evopis was in love with her brother and carrying on an affair with him. Dimoetes publicly exposed her, reporting the affair to her father. In shame, Evopis hung herself, but not before cursing Dimoetes.

Some time later, Dimoetes found the body of a beautiful woman washed up by the ocean surf, and became hopelessly attracted to, and attached to her. As she decomposed and he was no longer able to be with her, he was so despondent that he took his own life.

So, if you ever feel like you're too much of a simp, just remember that at least you're not this guy ^^
