I saw this movie "Medea" at a Paosolini Festival many years ago. The director went on to make more very strange, and very sexy movies.
A youth has to die to guarantee an abundant harvest, and this guy volunteered. He knows exactly what's going to happen too him. At the beginning of the procession (to his strangulation death) he acts like a happy birthday boy anticipating his party. It's only when he's standing in front of the post that he's about to be tied too that his courage fails. He shows real fear. Then he is tied up and choked to death. Then he's chopped up. This was a really hot scene in a very strange movie.
