Bernardo Tengarrinha, a former soccer player, died this Saturday at the age of 32 from Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a disease very similar to leukemia. The information was released by Chaves, one of the clubs where he worked.
The former midfielder interrupted his career in 2017 while playing for Boavista due to illness. Since then he has been the Professional Football Players Union (SJPF) ambassador for mental health.
Born in Sátão, Tengarrinha was trained at FC Porto and later worked for Estrela da Amadora, Olhanense, Santa Clara, V. Setúbal, CSKA Sofia, Freamunde, Chaves and Boavista. At the youth level it was international.
The former player will be honored with a minute of silence ahead of Saturday’s derby between FC Porto and Boavista, which is scheduled for 5pm in Dragão.
